Say what you want about Jay Z. I am a fan. I have been one since the late 90′s when a co-worker at the Peppermint in West End from New York said “Des! You gotta cop dis Reasonable Doubt yo!” I listened and was a fan as soon I heard “Cashmere Thoughts.” Guess I wanted to ride and feel like a pimp or something, but that was the song that caught me. It’s weird that back then, when you found music you wanted to know the history of the artists. What I like about this short documentary is, for all of Jay Z’s new fans, they can watch and know a little about his story. See, that word “HISTORY.” You have to know where you come from. Like me, My Name Is “That Retail Chick” and I come from the place where the sale is made…a music store. Let me say again…A MUSIC STORE. Through all the ups and downs, money was made, and my store…my store did not close because it did not make money. My store closed in the black, however it was apart of a bigger system, and for that reason we had to shut down. You see all I have known, is music, money, & retail marketing for the last 14 years, so that’s what I speak best about. When Jay Z made the song “New York” he did the same. He spoke best about what he knew; where he came from; and you can feel what I am saying when you watch this. Now there’s no comparison, he’s Jay Z and I am That Retail Chick, but I guess what I’m saying is, stay in your lane. BE TRUE TO WHO YOU ARE. Speak best about what you know about. You will be respected for that.
